March of 2020 was a difficult time for everyone world wide. COVID shut down the world. The second week of that March I was in Sonoma teaching a four day course, day two everyone had canceled as we were now in the middle of the pandemic. I drove home to and empty Interstate 5 Freeway, not knowing what to expect. My pantry and refrigerator was bare as I like to shop “European” style and buy groceries daily for my dinners. I headed out to the store to find all of the shelves bare. Th meat department had racks of pork ribs and a slew of whole chickens. I grabbed three. The meat manager said, I am sorry you only can have two, there is a limit. Seeing the cases of whole frozen birds, I asked him why so many? He said. Nobody knows how to roast a whole chicken. This got me thinking. I decided to do a nightly cooking show at 6:30PST from my home kitchen. I also started doing all of my food segments for the networks around the country also from my kitchen. When I was younger I recall watching the Galloping Gourmet Show with Graham Kerr (1969-1971) cooking away on the local network. Once he made something with an octopus and then he would run into the crowd get some un-expecting person out of the audience and have them sit down to a glass of wine and try the food. I thought this was crazy! I enjoyed these afternoons after school. I never thought I would be doing food segments!
I have created food for national food companies to working on the Food Network with Robin Leech back in 1993 when we launched the network into the homes of Americans. I worked on the ABC National Show Mike and Maty as the resident chef. Now I can been seen on more locaized morning shows from Dallas to San Diego to New York City.
